Kanchanjanga State University, Sikkim's fourth convocation was held today at Chintan Bhawan. Honourable Governor of Sikkim and Chancellor of the University Mr. Om Prakash Mathur, recorded his presence on this occasion. During this time, State Education Minister Shri Raju Basnet was also present.
Convocation started with national anthem and national anthem. Hon'ble Governor and Chancellor formally announced the convocation and lit the traditional lamp.
Hon'ble Governor and Chancellor awarded degrees and medals, including gold and silver medals to students receiving postgraduate degrees in subjects of Nepali, Sanskrit, Bhutia, Limbu and Lepcha.
In his address, the Hon'ble Governor congratulated all graduated students and called for active contribution in nation-building. Emphasised on taking cognisance of the Education Minister towards the prompt completion of the university's permanent under-construction campus.
The Honorable Governor said that education is not mere qualification, but a big responsibility. Students carry forward the dignity of their families, teachers and university. No matter which field they go into, their contribution should be so big that the name of Sikkim and the university should be brightened across the country. He said the state should not only be known for natural beauty and tourism but also for quality higher education, its conductors are students.
Chancellor Dr. Congratulations to Ashish Sharma, faculty members and staff on the initiative of taking this institution to new heights and the university despite limited resources.
The ceremony concluded with the declaration of the convocation by the Hon'ble Governor officially.
On this occasion, Chief Secretary of Education Department Mr. Sandeep Tambe, Secretary (Higher Education) Mr. Tenzing Kizom, Chancellor Dr. Ashish Sharma, Chancellor of various universities, high officials, faculty members, parents and students were present.
