Training Programme on Post-Harvest Management and Value Addition of Oilseed Crops Conducted at Yangang.
Namchi, March 13: A training programme on Post-Harvest Management and Value Addition of Oilseed Crops under the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-OS) was conducted from 11th to 13th March at Lingmoo Paiyong, Kolthang Tokday, Niya Mangzing GPU in Yangang.
The programme was organized by the Agriculture Department, Namchi District, in collaboration with FPO Value Chain Partners under MOVCD-NER. The event was attended by Zilla Panchayat, Panchayat members, Deputy Directors, Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs), Agriculture Inspectors (AIs), Village Level Workers (VLWs), concerned Agriculture and Horticulture staff, FPO members, and farmers from the area.
NMEO-OS aims to increase the production and area expansion of oilseed crops, while also promoting post-harvest management practices and strengthening the oilseed value chain through Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs).
During the programme, the Department officials highlighted several important topics, including value addition of oilseed crops, utilization of by-products, pest management practices, and the role of FPOs in strengthening the oilseed value chain. As part of the initiative, oil expeller machines were handed over to the concerned FPOs to support local processing and value addition.
Practical demonstrations were conducted to showcase the process of extracting oil from oilseed crops such as mustard and sunflower, emphasising the potential for local processing, entrepreneurship, and income generation.
The programme witnessed active participation of farmers from three FPOs, who engaged in discussions and interactions with officials and technical experts.
