Training on Next Gen Essential Disaster Preparedness and Readiness in Schools Concludes.
Gangtok, 12 March: The four-day training programme titled “Next Gen Essential Disaster Preparedness and Readiness in Schools”, organised by the District Disaster Management Authority, Gangtok (DDMA Gangtok) in coordination with EDvantage Learn, from 9th March to 12th March 2026, successfully concluded today.
The closing session was graced by Mr Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, Additional District Magistrate, Gangtok, as the Chief Guest. Also present were Mr Mahendra Chettri, SDM, Gangtok, Mr Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, Joint Director, DDMA, Ms Bijayata Kharel, Deputy Director, DDMA, and Vincent Hilton from EDvantage Learn, who served as the resource person.
Over the four days, 250 nodal teachers from government and private schools across Gangtok District were trained in disaster preparedness, including preparation of School Disaster Management Plans, school safety planning, and effective emergency response in schools. Teachers were also introduced to AI tools such as NotebookLM, along with sessions on financial literacy, facilitated by EDvantage Learn.
The key focus of the training programme was the preparation of School Disaster Management Plans using AI tools, aimed at enhancing teachers’ capacity to ensure safer and more resilient learning environments for students.
The programme concluded with appreciation for the active participation and commitment of teachers towards strengthening disaster preparedness in schools.
