Inauguration Ceremony of 20-Day Traditional Snacks & Confectionery and Food Processing Cluster Training Held at Chota Samdong
Soreng District, 12th March 2026: The inauguration ceremony of the 20-day Traditional Snacks & Confectionery Training and Food Processing Cluster Training under the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Scheme, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, was successfully held today at Chota Samdong, Arubotey GPU, Soreng Chakung Constituency, Soreng District.
The training programme is supported by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, and organised in collaboration with Zhimmey Takeaway, Gangtok, with the objective of strengthening local entrepreneurship, promoting value addition in food processing, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural communities.
The programme was graced by Hon’ble Chairman, Agriculture & Horticulture Board, Shri C.K. Rana, as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests present included OSD to the Hon’ble MLA (Rinchenpong Constituency) Shri D.P. Sharma, Panchayat President of Arubotey GPU Chota Samdong Shri Aita Rani Limboo, along with respected Panchayat Members and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Chairman Shri C.K. Rana appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of skill development and entrepreneurship in rural areas. He encouraged the participants to utilise the training effectively and explore opportunities in food processing and traditional snack production to enhance income generation and self-reliance.
A total of 48 participants have been enrolled in the programme, with 24 participants in each training module. During the inauguration ceremony, starter kits were distributed to the participants to support their practical learning and help them begin small-scale food processing activities.
The 20-day training programme aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills in preparing traditional snacks, confectionery products, and various food processing techniques, enabling them to start or strengthen their own micro-enterprises.
This initiative also supports the vision of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) under the mission “One Family, One Entrepreneur,” which encourages entrepreneurship and self-employment across the state.
The programme reflects the continued commitment of the RAMP Scheme and the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, towards empowering local entrepreneurs and promoting MSME development throughout the state.
