The Valedictory Programme of the One-Week National Workshop on Academic Writing and the Closing Ceremony of the Month-Long Academic Events.
The Research Cell of Sikkim Government College, Rhenock successfully concluded the One- Week National Workshop on Academic Writing held from 2nd March to 7th March at its own institution. The workshop aimed to strengthen the research and academic writing skills among the faculty members and students.
The closing ceremony, Valedictory Session, was graced by Principal Dr. Shobha Sharma Basistha, in her address madam emphasised the significance of academic writing in promoting quality research and scholarly communication. She encouraged participants to apply the knowledge and techniques gained during the workshop in their future academic and research endeavours.
Throughout the week, eminent resource persons from reputed institutions like IIM Visakhapatnam, Usha Martin University, Delhi University, North Bengal University, SMIT- Majitar and Sikkim University conducted sessions on various aspects of academic writing, including research methodology, literature review, citation styles, plagiarism avoidance, research ethics, and publication strategies. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students.
Certificates were distributed to the organising committee and participants during the closing ceremony, marking the successful completion of the workshop.
Dr. Chhunu Giri, Convener of the Workshop, in her vote of thanks note, expressed gratitude to the chief guest, resource persons, participants, organising committee, and student volunteers for their active support and cooperation in making the workshop a great success and ensuring that such platforms will be provided to the students in the future.
The workshop served as an important platform for enhancing academic writing skills and fostering a strong research culture among participants.
Post-valedictory session, the institution organised a small programme to mark the successful completion of a month-long series of academic and skill-oriented events conducted at Sikkim Government College, Rhenock, with the support of RUSA.
The events included:
1. the Gender Sensitization Workshop (3rd–7th February 2026) organised by IQAC,
2. Indigenous Knowledge System Workshop (6th–7th February 2026) by the Department of Sociology,
3. Paper Recycling Workshop – An Entrepreneurial Initiative (9th–13th February 2026) by the Department of Commerce,
4. Photography Workshop (9th–13th February 2026) by the Department of Political
Science,
5. Tour Guide and Tour Operator Workshop (10th–14th February 2026) organised by the Research Cell,
6. Research Methodology and Data Analysis Workshop (16th–21st February 2026) by
the Department of Statistics and Computer Science,
7. Strategy Towards Excellence (19th–21st February 2026) organised by the Department
of Economics and IQAC,
8. Creative Writing Workshop (23rd–25th February 2026) by the Department of English
and Nepali,
9. Academic Writing Workshop (2nd–7th March 2026) by the Research Cell, and
10. The Border Symposium (5th March 2026) organised by the Department of Political
Science.
To acknowledge the collective effort behind the successful execution of these programmes, the Principal presented Awards of Appreciation to the administrative staff, convenors of the events, and organisers of the respective events.
The programme concluded with expressions of gratitude for the dedication and teamwork that contributed to making the month-long academic initiatives a success.
The Principal expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Minister Shri Raju Basnett, Hon’ble Member of Parliament Dr. Indra Hang Subba, the Vice Chairman of ITS and esteemed members, the Deputy Commissioner of Pakyong District, the OSD to the Hon’ble Chief
Minister, the OSD under the Lottery Department, and the OSD under the Information Technology Department for their valuable presence and encouragement.
The Principal also acknowledged the continued support of HRDD, RUSA, and the distinguished resource persons whose expertise and contributions greatly enriched the programmes and ensured the success of the month-long series of academic events.
