SSB’s ‘Operation Suraksha’ in Sikkim: Bravehearts Battle Raging Forest Fire to Shield Village from Disaster
Gyalshing,March 9:In a display of extraordinary courage and swift action, the 72nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal, Yuksam, successfully neutralized a massive forest fire threatening the lives and property of residents in the Melli-Aching village today.
Standing as a human shield between the advancing inferno and the civilian population, the SSB jawans averted what could have been a catastrophic disaster.
The operation was conducted under the expert guidance of Shri Narayan Ram Khadaw, Second-in-Command, 72nd Bn SSB and the on-ground leadership of Shri Meghnath Raut (Deputy Commandant). In a masterclass of inter-agency coordination, Inspector (GD) Mustakeem Ahmed and his team of dedicated jawans forged an "impenetrable wall" alongside the Forest Department, Sikkim Police, Fire Services, DDMA, and local residents.
Disregarding personal safety, the SSB jawans maintained their positions, utilizing tactical precision and discipline to contain the fire before it could reach the village outskirts.
The successful containment of the blaze within 4 hours is a testament to the 'Service, Security, and Brotherhood' ethos of the Sashastra Seema Bal. Fighting fire on mountain slopes requires more than just equipment—it requires the unbreakable team spirit and nerves of steel that these soldiers displayed today.
The local administration and the people of Melli Aching have expressed their deep gratitude to the SSB and other agency for their timely intervention and bravery.
