Namchi, 9 March: A Farmer–Scientist Interaction Programme on the theme “Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Crop Diversification” was successfully organized by ATMA, Agriculture Department, Namchi District at the Conference Hall of District Adminstrative Centre, Namchi, today.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Wangyal Lepcha, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, who highlighted the importance of adopting climate-resilient agricultural practices and strengthening the linkage between farmers and scientific experts to ensure sustainable productivity and income stability.
During the technical session, Shri Yona Pradhan, ADO Sumbuk (Entomologist), delivered a presentation on “Climate Change and Emerging Pest & Disease Management through Integrated Pest Management (IPM)”, where he elaborated on the impact of climate change on pest population and emphasized the adoption of eco-friendly pest management practices.
Shri Prakash Tiwari, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department, spoke on “Crop Diversification and High-Value Horticultural Crops for Income Enhancement.” He encouraged farmers to diversify their cropping systems by adopting high-value horticultural crops to enhance income and improve livelihood security.
Dr. Chandini Chettri, Veterinary Officer, delivered an informative session on “Integrated Farming System: Crop–Livestock Integration for Climate Resilience and Income Stability.” She explained how integrating crop and livestock components can improve farm sustainability, nutrient recycling, and income diversification.
Dr. Nation Chamling, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Namchi, also addressed the gathering and highlighted various agriculture schemes and programmes available for farmers under the Agriculture Department and ATMA, encouraging farmers to take advantage of these initiatives for improving farm productivity and income.
The programme witnessed active participation from farmers, field functionaries, and officers from the Agriculture and allied departments. The interaction provided a valuable platform for farmers to directly engage with experts and discuss field-level challenges and solutions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Nikam Tamang, ADO Namchi, expressing gratitude to all resource persons, officers, and farmers for their active participation. The programme was successfully coordinated and moderated by Mr. Pintso Bhutia, ATM, who served as the Master of the Ceremony.
