On 1st February 2026, the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Gangtok District, successfully organised a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” Rodong Tentek GPU. The programme was conducted under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao with the objective of spreading awareness about the harmful effects of child marriage and promoting the rights, dignity, and education of the girl child.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Teachers, students, Gram Panchayat members, and Social Welfare Inspectors, reflecting the collective commitment of the community towards eradicating child marriage.
The programme began with a brief welcome address by the Social Welfare Inspector, highlighting the significance of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative and the legal implications of child marriage under Indian law. Participants were informed about the importance of protecting children’s rights and ensuring equal opportunities for girls. Students actively participated in the Poster Making Competition and expressed their ideas creatively through powerful messages, slogans, and illustrations.
The artworks beautifully portrayed the dreams, aspirations, and rights of young girls and strongly conveyed the message that child marriage hinders education, health, and overall development.
The active involvement of students, Teachers and Panchayat members made the programme impactful and meaningful. The event served as a platform for community engagement and dialogue on safeguarding children’s rights.
