DIET, Gyalshing Organises 5 Days’ Induction Programme on School Leadership, Academic Planning and Management.
Gyalshing,February 28: With the aim of equipping newly recruited School Heads with essential leadership competencies, policy awareness, administrative understanding, and innovative strategies for effective school management, a 5 Days’ Induction Programme on School Leadership, Academic Planning and Management was successfully organised by District Institute of Education and Training, Gyalshing from 23rd to 27th February
,2026.
The inaugural session was graced by Mr Rajesh Thapa, Joint Director, Education Department, Gyalshing, and Ms Parumita Rai, Principal, DIET Gyalshing, along with faculty members and participating School Heads.
Programme Highlights:
Day 1: Perspectives on School Leadership:
The programme began with an ice-breaking session conducted by Ms Matrika Thapa, Sr Lecturer, to foster engagement among participants. She also introduced the National Centre for School Leadership and State Leadership Academies. Mr Rajesh Thapa then delivered a session on “Perspective on Leadership,” highlighting the multifaceted roles, responsibilities, and challenges of school leaders, with emphasis on visionary leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
Day 2: Developing Self & School Development Planning:
Ms Matrika Thapa conducted a session on “Developing Self in the Context of School Leadership,” focusing on self-awareness and continuous professional growth. A Heartfulness/Mindfulness session by Mr Rohit Sharma (GTM, Pelling SSS) introduced meditation techniques for stress management and emotional balance. Post-lunch sessions by Mr DB Subba, Retired Deputy Director, Education Department, covered preparation of School Development Plans (SDP), stakeholder partnerships, and teacher professional development.
Day 3: Policy and Governance Orientation:
Mr Rajesh Thapa led a session on transforming the teaching–learning process as a key area of school leadership. This was followed by a session on Government Leave Rules by Mr Mayel Lepcha, UDC, Education Department, Gyalshing. Ms Parumita Rai conducted a session on the National Education Policy 2020, followed by Ms Sadhna Gurung’s session on the dissemination of PARAKH (Rashtriya Sarvekshan).
Day 4: Leadership in Action:
Sessions focused on understanding the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022 and orientation on State Flagship Programmes such as HPC, SNP, ECCE, Vidya Pravesh, and LLP, conducted by DIET faculty members Ms. Dipika Rai, Ms Babita Pradhan and Mr Dhiraj Chettri.
Day 5: Leading Innovation & Valedictory:
Mr Sudip Subba, Headmaster, Pewthang PS, shared innovative and impactful school practices implemented in his institution. This was followed by group presentations by School Heads based on the concepts of Circle of Concern and Circle of Influence and SWOT analysis.
The valedictory programme was graced by Mr MK Khewa, Joint Director, Soreng District; Mr Rajesh Thapa; Ms Parumita Rai; and Mr Sudip Subba.
As reflected in the participants’ feedback, the School Heads departed with renewed enthusiasm, enriched learning, and greater confidence to lead their schools effectively.
Overall, the programme concluded successfully and was coordinated by Mr Dhiraj Chettri and Ms Matrika Thapa.
