Gyalshing,February 21:The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Gyalshing, under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, organised an awareness programme on various child rights legislations under the guidance of Ms Bhawana Subba, DCPO, Gyalshing.
The programme was attended by the Panchayat President, Members, Teachers, Students and the general public of 29 Martam GPU.
Mr Prabin Gurung, Supervisor (CHL), conducted an informative session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, highlighting their key provisions and the importance of safeguarding children’s rights.
Ms Pavitra Baraily (DEO),conducted a session on child marriage, child labour, and the Mission Vatsalya scheme, highlighting their legal aspects and the importance of protecting children’s rights and welfare.
Mr Yogesh Nerola, Protection Officer (PO), conducted an informative session on substance abuse, school dropouts, and Bal Taskari (child trafficking). He highlighted the harmful effects of substance abuse on children’s health, education, and overall development, and stressed the importance of early intervention and parental guidance.
He also discussed the causes of school dropouts and emphasised the collective responsibility of parents, teachers, and community members to ensure children continue their education. On child trafficking, he sensitised participants about common tactics used by traffickers and urged the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to protect children from exploitation.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms Chungmu Tamang.
