Training and Orientation Programme every Saturday; Labour Department Initiates Training and Orientation Programme for Officers and Staff Members.
Gangtok, February 21, 2026: The Labour Department has initiated a Training and Orientation Programme for its Officers and staff members, to be held every Saturday afternoon. This aims at bridging the performance gap between the current performance level and the expected performance level among the officers and employees.
The Labour Department has also been expeditiously undertaking the onboarding of officers and employees on the iGOT Karmayogi platform for various online training sessions.
During the MoU signing programme with the Capacity Building Commission on 11 February 2026, the Chief Secretary had mentioned the idea of undertaking such training every Saturday afternoon of Saturday. On this line, though Karmayogi is an online platform, which has equally been undertaken by the Labour Department, the Department has also initiated a training programme on a physical mode every Saturday in the second half. Officers from within the Labour Department will be imparting training to the Officers and Staff members on labour related laws, enforcement matters, office procedures, noting, drafting, filing system and other soft skills like effective communication. If need be, experts from the Administrative Training Institute and other fields will also be invited to impart training.
To start with, today, Shri Bhim Thatal, Secretary, undertook training sessions on Effective Communication Skills and the Right to Information Act, 2005. The programme was attended by Labour Commissioner, Additional Labour Commissioners, Deputy Labour Commissioners, Assistant Labour Commissioners, Labour Inspectors, and subordinate staff members.
Labour Secretary Bhim Thatal has instructed the district offices to also undertake such programmes. Further, if need be, officers and employees of the districts and subdivisions of the Labour Department will be invited to the headquarters for such sessions. It will be ensured that during such training programmes on Saturdays, regular public works and office activities are not disturbed and works continue smoothly.
