36th Bn SSB Gyalshing, in collaboration with DDMA Gyalshing Conducts Massive Disaster Management Drill in Dentam Sub-Division.
Gyalshing,February 17:The Rapid Response Team(RRT)team of the 36th Battalion (Gyalshing) in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority, Gyalshing (Sikkim), conducted an awareness and training programme on earthquake relief and rescue for the students and teachers of Government Secondary School Sopakha and Sepi PS; Government Senior Secondary School Uttarey,Simphok PS,Konabar PS,Phul Moti Memorial Universal Smart Acadeny and Saraswati Vidya Academy; Government Secondary School Milling,Bural Singtam JSS,Bulkung PS,Jhankridunga PS,Gitang PS and Vineyard Academy; and Government Senior Secondary School, Bongten,Sombusty JHS,Changey PS,Sapung PS and Grace Academy Upper Lungzik.
The programme was carried out by two teams comprising 10 personnel each from the 36th Bn SSB.
During the session, live demonstrations were conducted on scientific methods of safely rescuing persons trapped under debris in situations such as earthquakes or landslides, preparation of improvised stretchers using locally available resources, and administration of first aid before shifting the injured to the hospital. A practical demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) in cases of cardiac arrest was also conducted.
The initiative undertaken jointly by the SSB and DDMA Gyalshing was widely appreciated by the school authorities and the local community. Such programmes strengthen the bond between security forces and civilians and further enhance mutual trust and cooperation.
