72 Bn SSB Yuksam, in collaboration with DDMA Gyalshing Conducts Massive Disaster Management Drill in Yuksam Sub-Division.
Gyalshing, February 17: In a significant move to bolster community safety and disaster awareness, the 72nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Yuksam, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gyalshing, organised a comprehensive two-session 'Relief and Rescue Operation' demonstration and training camp held today at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Gerethang and Govt Secondary School(GSS)Gangyap.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Mr Narayan Ram Khadaw, Second-in-Command, 72nd Bn SSB, and led by Sub-Inspector Ramesh Chandra along with a dedicated team of 20 SSB personnel. The initiative saw massive participation across two sessions:
The first session was attended by 55 teachers and 286 enthusiastic students from GSSS Gerethang, Mount Pandim Academy, Tamtam JHS, G-Next Boarding School, Labing PS, Upper Gerethang JHS, Chumang PS, Tinziring PS, and PM Shri KGBV.
The second session was attended by 58 teachers and 291 students from GSS Gangyap, Bright Career Academy, Nesa PS, M Chongrang JHS, and New Reepbum Academy.
The training focused on scientific methods of rescue during calamities like earthquakes and landslides.
The Key highlights included:
*Search and Rescue: Techniques for safely extracting individuals trapped under debris.
*Improvised Life-Saving Tools: Live demonstration of constructing emergency stretchers using locally available resources.
*Medical First Response: Critical training on pre-hospital care and the administration of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) in cases of cardiac arrest.
Experts at the camp emphasised that patience and technical proficiency are the ultimate lifesavers during a crisis.
The school administrations and local residents lauded the 72Bn SSB and DDMA Gyalshing for this proactive initiative. Beyond disaster readiness, the event served as a vital bridge, strengthening the bond between the security forces and the civilian population of Sikkim.
