Cluster Level Workshops under the Special Numeracy Programme Across Sikkim.
Gangtok, 17 February 2026: The SCERT, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with Jodo Gyan, New Delhi, successfully conducted a series of cluster-level capacity building workshops under the Special Numeracy Programme (SNP) across six districts of the State. The workshops were organised in 40 designated venue schools with the objective of strengthening foundational numeracy practices and enhancing classroom pedagogy in alignment with NIPUN Bharat goals.
Workshops for Class III Teachers (10–12 February 2026)
A one-day cluster-level orientation was organised for teachers teaching Mathematics in Class III, focusing on numeracy progression, activity-based learning strategies, effective use of Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs), and classroom-based assessment practices. Around 800 teachers and 50 Special Resource Group (SRG) members participated in the workshops statewide.
A key highlight of the initiative is that from the academic year 2026 onwards, the Special Numeracy Programme is being extended to Class III in all Government schools of Sikkim, ensuring continuity of foundational numeracy support and strengthening learning outcomes in the early grades.
Workshops for Class I & II Mathematics Teachers (16–17 February 2026)
Subsequently, focused workshops were conducted for teachers handling Mathematics in Classes I and II. Approximately 750 teachers, along with 52 SRG members, participated in these sessions, which emphasised play-based learning approaches, number sense development, remediation strategies, and integration of SNP classroom modules aligned with NIPUN Bharat indicators.
Key Highlights and Outcomes
• Cluster workshops were conducted in 40 venues across six districts of Sikkim.
• Strengthened teacher capacity through demonstration lessons, peer learning, and collaborative planning.
• Enhanced readiness for statewide implementation of SNP in Class III.
• Reinforced academic mentoring and monitoring mechanisms at the cluster level.
• The workshop at the cluster level was organised and conducted by all the selected members of the State Resource Group drawn from different blocks across all six districts.
The successful completion of these workshops reflects the State Government’s continued commitment to improving foundational numeracy and ensuring that every child achieves grade-appropriate mathematical competencies.
