Two Days Basic Training On Cooperatives For Newly Registered Cooperative Societies.
Pakyong, February 17: The two days basic training on cooperatives for newly registered cooperative societies held from 16th to 17th February 2026, concluded successfully today at the training hall of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN).
The inaugural and valedictory programmes were chaired by Hon’ble Chairman, SICUN, Dr. Mangal Jit Rai. The programme was attended by the CEO, SICUN, Shri Phadung Bhutia; the Executive Officer, Mrs. Indira Sharma; the Principal, JCTC, Mrs. Dawala Bhutia and other officials.
Around 27 trainees from newly registered cooperative societies and Farmers Producers’ Cooperative Societies participated in the training. The participating societies included Budang Kamerey MPCS, Darpan Farmers Cooperative Society (Pachey Samsing), Rumtek MPCS, Marchak MPCS, HAMRO Bhumi FPO (Rumtek), Sabhyata Tailoring Cooperative Society (Syari), Cherry Blossom FPO (Pakyong), Dochum Sirwani Chisopani FPO and Linkey Parakha MPCS.
On the first day, sessions covered Introduction to Cooperatives, Cooperative Values, Principles & Ideology and their application for proper functioning. The session was conducted by Mrs. Dawala Bhutia, Principal, JCTC-cum-Cooperative Education Officer, followed by a field visit to Nandok Saramsa MPCS.
On the second day, sessions on Structure and Management of Cooperative Societies were delivered by Shri Jitman Rai, CDO, SICUN and Legal Framework & Registration by Shri Phadung Bhutia, CEO, SICUN. The programme also included group discussions, experience sharing among trainees, feedback and concluded with the valedictory function.
In his address, Hon’ble Chairman, SICUN, Dr.Rai emphasised that such basic training programmes are crucial for newly registered cooperative members. He stated that the primary objective is to impart cooperative education and create awareness about cooperative principles and functioning. He further stressed that every member must clearly understand the bylaws, roles and responsibilities, rights and duties, financial discipline and democratic functioning of the society to ensure sustainability and strengthen the cooperative movement.
The programme was concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants, followed by a formal vote of thanks.
