KVK South Sikkim Organises One-Day Training & Awareness Programme in Convergence with ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research
Namchi, 16 February: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), South Sikkim, Namthang, organised a one-day training and awareness programme on “Varieties and Technologies of ICAR-IIHR Suitable for Sikkim” under the NEH Programme of ICAR-IIHR.
The programme was graced by the Hon’ble Zilla Adhakshya, Namchi District, Ms. Anjeeta Rajalim, as the Chief Guest. Dr. B. Balakrishna, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, attended as the Resource Person.
Farmers from Rabitar (NICRA adopted village), Passi FPO, Kisan Care FPO–Karek, Ruchung, Sadam and Kabrey actively participated in the programme.
At the outset, Senior Scientist and Head, Shri I.P. Shivakoti, welcomed the dignitaries and participants and presented a brief overview of the programme. He expressed his sincere gratitude to ICAR-IIHR for implementing need-based programmes in the district for the benefit of the farming community.
During the technical session, Dr. B. Balakrishna delivered a comprehensive presentation on improved varieties and innovative technologies developed by ICAR-IIHR suitable for the agro-climatic conditions of Sikkim. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where farmers shared their queries and experiences.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Ms. Anjeeta Rajalim, appreciated the consistent efforts of KVK South Sikkim in providing scientific and technological guidance to farmers. She also thanked ICAR-IIHR for working in convergence mode to strengthen the horticulture sector in the district. In her address, she encouraged farmers to adopt improved technologies and urged them to involve the younger generation in farming as a sustainable enterprise. She further highlighted various government initiatives supporting farmers in the dairy, livestock and agriculture sectors.
The programme also featured a felicitation ceremony honouring Dr. B. Balakrishna for his valuable contribution towards technological dissemination and farmer empowerment in the district.
The event concluded with the distribution of seeds and other inputs of ICAR-IIHR to participating farmers.
