Two-Day Thematic Training on ‘Healthy Village’ Held at Pachey–Samsing GPK.
Pakyong, February 11: The State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (SIRD & PR), Rural Development Department (RDD), organised a two-day thematic training programme on “Healthy Village” under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at Pachey–Samsing Gram Panchayat Unit (GPK) in Pakyong District, today.
The training focused on Sustainable Development Goal 3 — “Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages” . Resource persons from the Health & Family Welfare Department, Pakyong District, were invited to sensitise participants on various health-related indicators under the Local Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG), Theme 2.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Health and Family Welfare Pakyong District, Dr Madan Mani Dhakal, highlighted one of the key indicators under LSDG Theme 2 — “Early diagnosis and treatment of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases. He elaborated on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), including the Nikshay initiative for tuberculosis notification and treatment support. He also spoke about the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Control Programme and explained how residents of Pakyong district can avail themselves of these healthcare services.
Dr Digcha Rai, Dental Surgeon and Programme Coordinator of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Pakyong District, addressed the indicator on the “prevalence of tobacco use”. She emphasised strategies to achieve a “Tobacco-Free Village” at the Gram Panchayat level and sensitised participants about the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, aimed at controlling tobacco use and protecting public health.
Ms Barsha Sharma, Staff Nurse at Pakyong PHC, delivered a session on women’s reproductive healthcare. Covering topics such as pregnancy care, support for lactating mothers, menstrual hygiene, cervical cancer, and breast cancer, she stressed the importance of awareness and early screening under Theme 2 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme was attended by Panchayat President Mr HB Gurung, Mrs Ganga Bhandari, Faculty Member of SIRD-NPR, Gram Panchayat functionaries, and members of Self-Help Groups from Pachey–Samsing GPK.
The training aimed to strengthen grassroots awareness and build community-level capacity to achieve the Healthy Village targets under the Sustainable Development Goals.
