Date: 31-Jan-2026
Gyalshing, January 31:An integrated programme on Beti Janma Utsav and Godh Bharai was successfully organized at Yangtey Gyalshing by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under the Women, Child, Senior Citizens & Divyangjan Welfare (WCSCDW) Department, Gyalshing, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.
The programme was conducted with the objective of celebrating motherhood, promoting safe maternal practices, and reinforcing the value of the girl child in society. The event witnessed the active participation of eight ICDS Centres — Yangtey, Kabirthang, Omlok, Rematay, Upper Buluthang, Lower Buluthang, and Reythang ICDS, reflecting strong grassroots convergence and wider community involvement.
The traditional observance of Godh Bharai was held to honour and support pregnant women, while Beti Janma Utsav emphasised the importance of welcoming and nurturing the girl child in a safe, healthy, and equitable environment. The programme served as both a celebration and an awareness platform for maternal and child welfare.
Information on antenatal and prenatal care was shared, emphasising the importance of early pregnancy registration, regular health check-ups, proper nutrition, institutional delivery, immunisation, and postnatal care. Safe motherhood practices were highlighted, along with the shared responsibility of families and communities in ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and child.
Officials from DHEW also created awareness about important emergency support services, including the Women Helpline 181 and Child Helpline 1098, explaining how these toll-free services provide immediate assistance, counselling, and referral support to women and children in distress. Participants were encouraged to spread awareness about these helplines within their communities.
The programme concluded with a collective message promoting dignity, care, and equal opportunities for every girl child, while strengthening awareness on maternal health and government support systems. The active participation of pregnant women, mothers, community members, and frontline workers made the initiative impactful and meaningful.
The event reaffirmed the Department’s continued commitment under the BBBP initiative to safeguard the rights of women and children and to foster a supportive, informed, and empowered community.
