Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Visits 72nd Battalion SSB, Reviews Border Infrastructure and Development Issues
Gyalshing,January 22:During the course of his regional tour today, the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim, Shri T. T. Bhutia, visited 72nd Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Yuksam.
The Hon’ble Minister was accorded a formal reception by Shri Jai Prakash, Commandant, along with all officers of the Battalion.
During the visit, the Hon’ble Minister highly appreciated the significant role being performed by the Sashastra Seema Bal and the 72nd Battalion in ensuring border security under extremely arduous and challenging geographical conditions.
With the objective of strengthening infrastructure in border areas and further enhancing the security apparatus, discussions were held with the Hon’ble Minister on the following important issues:
1. Construction of an all-weather road from Nambu Company via Chungri Basti – Dhoban – Naya Patal – Yambung – Chaturbadi Chowk – Silsiley, up to Border Pillar No. 35.
2. Tourism potential in the operational area of 72nd Battalion, via Uttray and 36th Battalion.
3. Survey for electricity supply to Border Out Posts including Pushar Chowk, Phalki, yambung, Chaturbadi Chowk, Silsiley , and Hanspokhari.
4. Provision of an additional 20 acres of land near the existing site for the Battalion Headquarters.
5. Cooperation from the Forest Department for issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) for establishment of Border Out Posts at Dzongri, Bakhim, and Thansingh in the KNP area.
6. Participation of local villages under the Vibrant Villages Programme in the tender process for supply of fresh vegetables, fruits, milk, ration, etc. to the Battalion and its companies, with a view to village empowerment.
7. Ensuring regular availability of potable drinking water at all Border Out Posts, among other related matters.
The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the continuous efforts of the Sashastra Seema Bal in ensuring development and security in border areas. He assured full cooperation in the future and emphasized coordination with the concerned departments for early resolution of infrastructure-related issues, particularly those pertaining to roads, electricity, and land.
