A one-day State Orientation Training on Adoption Regulations, 2022 was held at the Conference Hall of the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department on 14th January 2026, in the presence of the Principal Director, WCSC&DWD, Government of Sikkim.
The training was organised by the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), Mission Vatsalya, WCSC&DWD, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). The Resource Person, Mrs Abhisarika Rai, represented CARA.
The trainees included all stakeholders such as officials from the District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, members from the District Magistrate’s Office, Birth Certificate Issuing Authority, members from the Specialised Adoption Agency, and Child Care Institutions.
The training commenced with a welcome address by the Programme Manager, SARA, Mrs Laxaana Subidi. Mrs Rai then took over the session, highlighting the aims and objectives of CARA, legislations pertaining to adoption, key amendments in the Adoption Regulations, 2022, and the adoption network in India. The roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders in ensuring a smooth adoption process, along with procedures for in-country and inter-country adoptions, were also discussed.
The Programme Manager informed that SARA was established in 2015 in Sikkim, and since its inception, there have been 108 in-country adoptions, 3 inter-country adoptions, and 1 adoption of a special needs child.
The training was followed by an open house discussion, during which participants raised their concerns, queries, issues, and challenges, and shared their experiences.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs Nim Chuti Sherpa, PO, SARA.
