Press Report: Batch-1 Student Training Program, Namchi District

Venue: PM SHRI Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Namchi
Dates: 11th –12th December 2025
The inaugural batch of the Student Training Program under Sarathi 1.0(Supported by Titan Company Limited) was conducted in Namchi District, reflecting the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), to create an Addiction-Free and Mentally Healthy Sikkim. The two-day programme aimed to equip students with essential life skills, mental health awareness, and the ability to resist various forms of addiction through interactive learning and practical engagement.
A total of eight Government Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools participated, each represented by four students (two boys and two girls), ensuring equal participation and a balanced representation across the district:
1. Assangthang Government Secondary School
2. Kamrang Government Secondary School
3. Mickkhola Government Secondary School
4. Maniram Government Secondary School
5. Pamphok Government Secondary School
6. Namchi New Government Secondary School
7. PM Shri Government Girls Senior Secondary School
8. PM Shri Government Boys Senior Secondary School
DAY 1: 11 December 2025
The programme commenced with Ms. Tila Rupa Chhetri (Soreng District Coordinator) as the Master of Ceremonies. Ms. Anzila (Namchi District Coordinator) extended a warm welcome to the participants, outlining the purpose, structure, and expected outcomes of the training.
An energizing ice-breaking session was led by Mr. Bishal Sharma, Project Director (Sarathi 1.0), which successfully built rapport among students. This was followed by an insightful awareness session covering:
• The psychology of addiction
• Early signs of dependency
• The mental health challenges faced by adolescents
• Strategies for resilience and emotional well-being
Students were then divided into four thematic groups for activity-based learning:
• Team 1: Causes and remedies for tobacco addiction
• Team 2: Mental health issues prevalent among students and coping mechanisms
• Team 3: Rise of mobile addiction among teenagers and approaches to self-regulation
• Team 4: Maintaining mental hygiene and building immunity against addictive behaviour
Each group engaged in discussions, presentations, and scenario-based exercises, fostering analytical thinking and collaboration.
Mr. Bishal Sharma later shared his personal journey, underscoring the importance of discipline, self-awareness, and conscious choices. His testimony deeply resonated with the students. The cultural segment added vibrancy to the programme with a solo song by the students. A lively Chinese Whisper game further boosted team spirit and enthusiasm.
The day concluded with a Vote of Thanks from the Project Director, acknowledging the sincere participation of students, the support of coordinators, and the cooperation of the host school. Day 1 ended on a positive and impactful note.
DAY 2: 12th December 2025
Day 2 began with the presence of distinguished guests, including:
1. Chief Guest: Shri Bishnu Prasad Sharma, APS to HCM (Namchi District)
2. Special Guest: Shri Suraj Rai, CEO, Education Department
Day 2 was entirely student-led, highlighting their leadership, organizational skills, and ability to conduct structured events with maturity. The session opened with a soothing welcome song by Mishal Biswa (Kamrang SS), followed by a captivating performance by Florence Rai (Kamrang SS).
The MC duties were confidently handled by Roshini Sharma (PM Shri Girls SSS) and Prajwal Chhetri (PM Shri Boys SSS), who ensured smooth transitions throughout the programme.
A key highlight of the morning was the motivational address by Project Director Shri Bishal Sharma, who spoke on the importance of self-discipline, mental strength, and making responsible decisions. His surprise musical performance added warmth and positive energy to the gathering. Students then showcased their creativity through four skit presentations, each addressing themes of addiction, peer pressure, family support, and mental wellness. Their performances reflected strong teamwork, understanding, and originality.
The cultural segment continued with dynamic dance performances, instrumental pieces, and group songs that celebrated the diverse talents within the student community. After lunch, a reflective experience-sharing session allowed several students to express personal insights and learning outcomes from the programme.
The event was further elevated by Shri Suraj Rai, CEO, Education Department, who interacted with the students, responded to their queries, and encouraged them to actively participate in Sarathi 1.0 initiatives. His presence added both inspiration and credibility to the programme. This was followed by a short but impactful interactive training session by the Project Director, summarising various initiatives, modules, and upcoming training opportunities under Sarathi 1.0.
The programme culminated with an address by the Chief Guest, Shri Bishnu Prasad Sharma, APS to HCM (Namchi District), who congratulated the students for their dedication and highlighted the significance of such initiatives in shaping responsible and emotionally strong youth.
The two-day training concluded with a formal certificate distribution ceremony, marking the successful completion of the programme and leaving students with renewed confidence, awareness, and motivation.
