Sikkim Milk Union Empowers Dairy Farmers through GHP & GMP Training; Inaugurates BMC and Society Infrastructure at Assam Lingzey & Pastanga
Gangtok / Naitam, Sikkim: The Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Sikkim Milk Union) successfully conducted a comprehensive full-day training programme on Good Hygienic Practices (GHP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for dairy farmers at Naitam Community Hall, aimed at strengthening clean milk production and empowering farmers with scientific knowledge and practical skills.
The programme was fully supported under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD/SK/07K) of the Government of India, reaffirming the national commitment to sustainable dairy development and farmer welfare.

Dr. T. B. Ghatani Highlights Cooperative Strength:
In his keynote technical address, Dr. T. B. Ghatani highlighted the Union’s role in ensuring assured milk marketing, timely payment, and farmer welfare.
He highlighted Government support including:
- ₹8 per litre milk incentive by the State Government
- Celebration of Gwala Diwas in honour of dairy farmers
- Gwala Ratna Awards for progressive farmers
- Infrastructure support under NPDD
Chairman’s Address:
Hon’ble Chairman Shri Yam Kumar Sharma highlighted government welfare measures and infrastructure initiatives for farmer prosperity.
Technical Session:
Dr. Gyalpo Bhutia provided a presentation on clean milk production practices covering hygiene, housing, handling, and disease prevention.
Inauguration of Infrastructure:
- 500-litre Bulk Milk Cooler at Assam Lingzey MPCS
- New Milk Collection Centre at Pastanga MPCS

Farmer Support:
Participants received mineral mixtures and deworming tablets.
