National Campaign for Gender Equality at Namchi Block
Namchi, 1 December: National Campaign for Gender Equality was successfully organised at Namchi Block at Namchi Municipal Hall on 1st September 2025, aiming to raise awareness on equal rights, opportunities, and dignity for all genders.
The program brought together Self Help Groups (SHGs), community leaders, Panchyat Members, and Government officials committed to promoting inclusivity and social justice. The welcome address was given by Tshong Doma Tamang, Assistant Project Manager, BMMU SRLM/RDD.
Mrs. Srijana Sharma, President of BDS Namchi, briefed about SHGs at the village level, SHG Federation at GPU level & Block Development Society at Block Level. Mrs Sharma also briefed about the programmes, schemes availed by SHGs of Namchi and thanking BDO Namchi for unwavering support towards SHGs.
The programme began with an introductory speech delivered by the Block Project Manager (BPM) of Namchi, who warmly welcomed all dignitaries, guests, and participants.
In her address, she highlighted the importance of gender equality as not only a constitutional right but also a foundation for a fair and progressive society. She spoke about the existing gender gaps in education, employment, and leadership, and stressed the need to challenge deep-rooted social norms that limit opportunities for women and other gender groups. Domestic works in every household should be divided amongst household members, where “Share Work Share Growth” is the key to move forward.
The BPM also acknowledged the significant role of Self Help Groups, Federation leaders, and community institutions in promoting awareness and driving behavioural change at the grassroots level. Her speech set a meaningful tone for the event, encouraging everyone present to actively participate and contribute to building a more inclusive and equal community.
Mr. Upendra Rai, Block Development Officer (BDO), Namchi, graced the program as the Chief Guest and expressed his enthusiasm in attending SHG-led programmes. Mr. Rai addressed the gathering with an empowering speech focusing on the importance of creating safe spaces, equal access to education, and employment opportunities for women and gender equality. The BDO emphasised that economic empowerment and active participation of women in decision-making are key to building a progressive & healthy society.
The program also had the honor of the presence of Mrs. Kala Pradhan, Chairperson Food Processing Department, who also belongs to one of the SHGs under Namchi block.
Mrs. Pradhan, in her motivating address, highlighted the crucial role of community-led initiatives, SHGs, and youth participation in bridging the gender gap. She appreciated the efforts of SHG members and expressed her commitment to continue supporting programmes that uplift women and contribute towards equitable development.
IEC materials were distributed to further spread the message of gender equality through SHGs, SHGF, WRPs & BRPs. The Gender pledge was led by Chairperson Mrs. Kala Pradhan, where all SHG members followed her.
The programme concluded with a pledge ceremony where participants committed to supporting gender equality, promoting respect, and raising awareness in their communities.
