Gyalshing,November 21:A high-level team led by the Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Ms Sarika Pradhan, conducted an official visit to Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Gangyap today. She was accompanied by Joint Secretary-cum-Nodal Officer (EMRS Society of Sikkim), Mr Prem Kamal Rai, Chief Engineer, Mr Thinlay Gyatso Chankapa, and officers and staff from the Engineering Section. Also present were Welfare Officer Gyalshing Mr Roshan Sharma, Principal EMRS Mr Sidharth Yonzone, SMC members, and the school staff.
The visit began with a felicitation ceremony organised to honour the outstanding achievements of EMRS, Gangyap. The school recently secured first place at the EMRS National-Level Basketball Championship, won the state-level title, and delivered an exceptional performance in choir, bringing pride to the institution and the state.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary Ms Sarika Pradhan congratulated the students and staff for their remarkable accomplishments. She lauded the dedicated efforts of Principal Mr Sidharth Yonzone and the entire staff in making EMRS, Gangyap, one of the best-performing EMRS institutions in the region. She highlighted the school’s long-standing legacy of excellence in both academics and co-curricular activities and encouraged students to continue striving for greater achievements. She also emphasised the importance of teamwork for the holistic development of students and the overall advancement of the school.
As part of the visit, the Secretary conducted counselling and motivational sessions for students of Classes 10 and 12, focusing on academic preparedness, career guidance, and emotional well-being. She further interacted with the teaching and non-teaching staff to understand ongoing initiatives and challenges.
Additionally, the Engineering Section carried out a site inspection of upcoming construction and infrastructural development works in the presence of the Secretary, assessing requirements and ensuring the timely progress of proposed projects.
The Social Welfare Department remains committed to strengthening EMRS institutions across Sikkim and enhancing quality education and opportunities for tribal students.
