Farmers Scientist Interaction Programme on the occasion of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme
Agriculture Department, Government of Sikkim, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in collaboration with ICAR RC NEH, Sikkim Centre,successfully organised a Farmers Scientist Interaction programme on the occasion of release of the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri KisanSamman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme under the guidance of Dr. Ashok Kumar, Head, ICAR RC NEH, Sikkim Centre, on November 19, 2025 at the conference hall, ICAR RC NEH, Sikkim Centre, Tadong.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 100 farmers representing various villages across East Sikkim. The programme began with a welcome address by Sh. Boniface Lepcha, SMS (Horticulture) & Senior Scientist and Head (In-charge), KVK East Sikkim. The programme was graced by the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Rachana Gurung, Director, SAMETI, Department of Agriculture, Government of Sikkim, who highlighted the key objectives of the PM-KISAN scheme and emphasised how the initiative continues to support farmers through timely and direct financial assistance.
Sh. Jigme Dorjee Bhutia, IAS, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Government of Sikkim, addressed the gathering and underscored the importance of organic farming in the state. He elaborated on various government schemes that are driving the promotion and expansion of organic agriculture in Sikkim.
The distinguished guests included Sh. Passang Tamang, Additional Director, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Sikkim, Sh. Yogesh Sharma, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Sikkim, Dr. Ram Gopal, Principal Scientist (Plant Breeding), Dr. Sudip Dutta, Senior Scientist & Head (In-charge), ICAR RC Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Dr.Shoan Kumar Das, Senior Scientist (Soil Science); Dr. Amit Kumar, Scientist (Agronomy), and Dr. Pempa Lamu Bhutia, Scientist, SS, (Agroforestry) from ICAR RC, Tadong. Similarly, Dr. Janak Kumar Sigh, SMS (Plant Breeding), Mrs. Anushree Gogoi, SMS (Home Science); Dr.Akanksha, SMS (Animal Science); and Dr. Kotha Shravani, SMS (Agricultural Extension) from KVK East Sikkim, Ranipool, also participated.
During the technical session, all experts interacted with farmers and addressed their queries related to rabi vegetable and field crops cultivation, pest and disease management, nutrient application, and other seasonal agricultural challenges. The experts emphasised practical, field-oriented recommendations aimed at improving farmers’ productivity and ensuring better crop performance during the rabi season.
The event also coincided with the national-level release of the 21st PM-KISAN instalment by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, who addressed the nation from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The live telecast enabled farmers to directly connect with the Prime Minister’s message, which reaffirmed the Government’s strong commitment to farmer welfare and rural development.
In the concluding session, officials emphasized the need for adopting modern and scientific farming practices to improve agricultural productivity in Sikkim. They encouraged farmers to make effective use of government schemes and to maintain regular engagement with scientific institutions for better agricultural outcomes.
This program was conducted all over the state. The total number of events was 14 and the participant count was 576. Along with the state event, District event in coordination with ICAR/KVKs was also conducted, where in officials, farmers participated in mass numbers.
