Three (03) Days Hands on training for PMFME Beneficiaries from Sikkim on value addition in Millet Based Food Products.
Guwahati, Nov 14th 2025: A training programme was successfully conducted from 11th to 13th November 2025 under the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI),
Government of India.
The training programme was held at The National Institute of Food Technology,
Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T), Guwahati Centre.
The programme aimed to empower and upskill beneficiaries from Sikkim by providing comprehensive technical knowledge and practical expertise in millet processing, value addition, food safety standards, and modern packaging and marketing techniques.
A total of 27 budding entrepreneurs headed by the Team of State Lead Project Manager (SLPM-PMU) Mr. Chanzay Bhutia, Inspector, Ms. Yashey Choden Lepcha and Assistant Inspector, Mrs. Preeti Gurung
from Department of Food Processing Industries (DoFPI), Government of Sikkim actively participated in the training.
The sessions featured hands-on demonstrations and practical exposure in preparing a variety of millet- based value-added products such as Bread, cookies, cakes, muffins, and Pasta, Noodles, traditional sweets (chikki).
Participants also attended insightful sessions on food business schemes, preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and regulatory guidelines for establishing food processing units.
This initiative provided valuable industry exposure and experimental learning opportunities to PMFME beneficiaries, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth in the millet- based food
processing sector. It also underscores the Government's continued commitment to promoting millet cultivation and consumption across the state.
The Department of Food Processing Industries, Government of Sikkim, extends its sincere appreciation to NIFTEM-T Guwahati along with all expert trainers and facilitators, for their valuable support in
successfully organizing the programme. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in building local capacity, encouraging self-reliant food entrepreneurs, and strengthening the micro food processing ecosystem in Sikkim.
