Gyalshing,November 6: The Fisheries Department, Gyalshing District, successfully conducted a one-day Awareness Programme for Scheduled Tribe (ST/SC) beneficiaries under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), with support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, at the 22-Maneybong Gram Prashasan Kendra(GPK) Hall under Maneybong-Dentam Constituency, Gyalshing District,today.
The programme was graced by Ms Meena Kumari Rai Panchayat Vice-President, Maneybong GPU, as the Chief Guest. She was accompanied by other esteemed dignitaries including the Panchayat Members. Also present were Mr Duchen Lepcha Deputy Director, Fisheries Department Gyalshing, Mr Kusang Sherpa Block Officer and departmental staff comprising FGs, AFGs and farm staff.
The primary objective of the programme was to sensitise tribal(ST/SC) fish farmers about the wide range of government initiatives and schemes formulated for the holistic development of the fisheries sector in Sikkim, with particular emphasis on the welfare and upliftment of Scheduled Tribe communities.
The Chief guest in her address encouraged participants to take up fish farming wherever feasible. She also emphasised training and producing value-added products. She urged the farmers to proactively access and utilize the various schemes being implemented by the Department for their benefit. She further thanked the department for organising the awareness programme and thus enlightening them on various schemes under the Fisheries Department.
Mr Duchen Lepcha (Deputy Director) in his address gave a brief note about the programme. He also elaborated on Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana(PMDDKY).
Block Officer Mr Sherpa highlighted about (PMMKSSY)Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana.
Further, Mr Sonam Paljor Sherpa AFG highlighted about the PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana & MMMUY (Mukhya Mantri Matsya Utpadan Yojana).
The programme concluded with an interactive session followed by a vote of thanks by Mr Rakesh Pradhan (AFG), extending gratitude to Panchayat Vice-President along with Panchayat Members of Maneybong GPU for their support and to the participating farmers.
