Celebration of “Godh-Bharai” under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)

The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Soreng, under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, successfully organized a “Godh-Bharai” celebration on 05.11.2025 at Chakung Health and Wellness Centre as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative in collaboration with Ayush.
The program witnessed active participation of pregnant women, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, the Health and Wellness Centre team, and staff from the Department, creating an atmosphere of awareness and celebration of motherhood and women’s health.
During the program, Mrs. Chandrakala Loksom, Supervisor, spoke on the importance of the first 1000 days in a child’s life, while Dr. Roshna Thapa (Ayush Doctor) highlighted the role of Ayush treatment during pregnancy. Mrs. Gauri Tamang, CDPO-cum-DNO, elaborated on the objectives of BBBP and the significance of the Godh-Bharai ceremony. Miss Varsa Chettri, Nutrition Inspector, discussed the importance of nutrition during pregnancy, and Mr. Kushal Rai, DEO (PMMVY), explained the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and its benefits for expectant mothers. Miss Nutan Lepcha, DMC, also spoke about the Women Helpline and the services available for women in need.
As part of the celebration, pregnant women’s height and weight were measured, blood tests were conducted, and necessary medicines were distributed to ensure their well-being and health monitoring. Additionally, gifts were presented to the pregnant women as a token of love and goodwill, symbolizing care and support for mothers-to-be.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the cooperation and participation of all stakeholders. The celebration served as an important platform to promote awareness on maternal health, women’s empowerment, and the collective efforts under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
