"Public awareness program on sexual abuse prevention concluded."
Sikkim Women's Commission in cooperation with the National Women's Commission, New Delhi, "Public Awareness Program on Sexual Abuse Prevention" grandly concluded at Rabongla Community Building in South Sikkim today, 29 October 2025.
The main objective of the program was to spread awareness about incidents of sexual abuse, harassment and violence against women in the workplace and society, provide information about legal rights and ensure everyone's participation in creating a safe and respectable environment.
After welcoming the invited guests to the beginning of the program with honor, Mrs. Tasi Doma Tamang, a member of the Sikkim Women's Commission, welcomed the comment. He stated programs like these play an important role in raising confidence and legal awareness in women.
Then Mrs. Teni Doma Bhutia, chairman of Sikkim Women's Commission, addressed the keynote address that the commission is continuously active in ensuring women's respect and equal rights. He emphasized the need for cooperation among all concerned to effectively implement legal provisions, including the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act (POSH Act).
Mrs. Sangeeta Gurung, Central Administrator of One Stop Center-Jorethang, presented detailed information about the functioning, service and available support of One Stop Center and Women Helpline. He informed that psychological, legal and emergency support services are available to women affected.
Similarly Advocate Ms. Bin Rai explained the legal provisions of Sexual Harassment Prevention Act (POSH Act) that building a safe environment in the workplace is the responsibility of all organizations.
Police Inspector Mr. Sunil Rai, Ravongla Police Station (President) informed about those provisions under the New Indian Penal Code (BNS), which stated to force the rights and security of the victims in connection with the POSH Act.
Similarly, Namchi District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Ms. Pema Wangmu Bhutia presented brief information about the main provisions of the POCSO Act regarding sexual abuse against children.
At the end of the program, Mrs. Parvati Acharya, a member of Sikkim Women's Commission, expressed his commitment to continuing public awareness programs regarding women's rights and security at the national and state level.
The program had a remarkable presence of Rabong Mahakuma Officer, representatives of various government offices, students, local women's group members, police officers and local citizens.
The Sikkim Women's Commission has announced that such awareness programs will be held in different places of the state in the coming days as well.
