The Fisheries Department, Government of Sikkim, convened a Co-ordination Meeting on 28th October 2025 at the Golden Jubilee Hall, Matsya Bhawan, Gangtok. The meeting was organized with the objective of reviewing the progress of departmental schemes and activities, enhancing inter-departmental coordination, and formulating strategies for the holistic development of the fisheries sector in the State.
The meeting was graced by Shri Puran Kumar Gurung, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Shri Am Psd Sharma, Hon’ble Advisor, Mrs. Anuradha Gurung, Hon’ble Chairperson, Shri Sanbir Limboo, Officer on Special Duty, and Mrs. Roshni Rai, Secretary, Fisheries Department. Shri K.K. Shrestha, Director, along with senior officers of the Department and field functionaries up to the Block Officer level, also attended the meeting.
Mrs. Yojana Rai, Deputy Secretary, made a presentation highlighting the administrative and operational progress of the Department, including the current manpower status. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation on the implementation of flagship schemes—Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Mukhya Mantri Matsya Utpadan Yojana (MMMUY)—delivered by Shri Surendra Bhandari, Assistant Director-cum-Nodal Officer, PMMSY. Mrs. Rahel Gurung, Assistant Engineer, presented an overview of the ongoing and proposed infrastructure development works undertaken under various departmental schemes.
In her address, Mrs. Roshni Rai, Secretary, Fisheries Department, highlighted the Department’s key achievements, challenges, and strategic plans aimed at enhancing fish production, improving infrastructure, and strengthening the livelihoods of fish farmers across the State.
The Hon’ble Chairperson and Hon’ble Advisor shared their valuable insights, underscoring the importance of effective field-level coordination, timely completion of works, and proactive engagement with the general public to ensure that they derive maximum benefit from the schemes implemented by the Department.
In his concluding remarks, Hon’ble Minister Shri Puran Kumar Gurung lauded the concerted efforts of all officers and staff of the Department. He called for a result-oriented and accountable approach to ensure the effective delivery of government programmes and schemes to the intended beneficiaries, in line with the directive of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Sikkim. The Hon’ble Minister reiterated that the Chief Minister has consistently emphasized the need for every department to demonstrate measurable outcomes and tangible benefits for the people. He further stressed the importance of innovation, sustainability, and collective effort to make Sikkim self-reliant in fish production. The Minister also urged all officers and staff to maintain punctuality, discipline, and regular attendance in the workplace to ensure efficient functioning of the Department.
