13th Leu Dun Bum-Ther Monlam Chenmo 2025 (22nd – 31st October 2025, Sangchen Pemayangtse Monastery, West Sikkim)
The 13th Leu Dun Bum-Ther Monlam Chenmo 2025 will be held from 22nd to 31st October 2025 at Sangchen Pemayangtse Monastery, the principal seat of Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo Namkha Jigmed, one of the principal founders of the Namgyal Dynasty of Sikkim.
The great Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo proclaimed:
“Discover the path through the Mani Padme,
turn towards Chamaradvipa (Ngayab Ling),
engage in the practice of the Seventh Chapter prayers (LEU DUN),
and entrust all your happiness and sorrow to Guru Rinpoche.”
It is further instructed:
“Recite the Seventh Chapter and the Vajra Guru mantra,
through which the ordinary mind is purified by the power of ripening initiations.
Meditation becomes firmly established through liberating teachings.
Do not cling to the life-force; courage and confidence are essential for contemplation.”
In keeping with this profound instruction, the Leu Dun Bum-Ther Monlam Chenmo was first initiated in 2011 by Ven. Lopen Tenpa Gyatso, following the International Conference held at Lumbini. Later, during the retreat of Late H.E. Gyari Lodro Gyaltsen Rinpoche at Pemayangtse Monastery, Ven. Lopen Tenpa Gyatso requested the late Rinpoche to bless and support the performance of the Leu Dun Monlam, as prophesied by Guru Padmasambhava and revealed by Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo through the outer, inner, secret, and innermost secret prophecies — also in accordance with the guidance of H.H. Jadrel Sangay Dorje Rinpoche and other eminent masters.
With deep devotion and pure aspiration for the benefit of the world in general and Sikkim in particular, Rinpoche accepted this sacred responsibility and, together with Ven. Lopen Tenpa Gyatso, led the Sangha to actualize this great Dharma event. The first Leu Dun Bum-Ther Monlam was successfully conducted in 2012 at Tashiding Monastery, with the blessings and support of H.E. Khenchen La Tshering Rinpoche, the lineage holder of Pal Gyalwa Ngadakpa, and with the collective effort of the entire monastic community. Over 500 practitioners participated in that historic ceremony.
In 2013, the second Leu Dun Monlam could not be held due to various circumstances. However, this sacred tradition was later revived and continued at Pemayangtse Monastery in 2014 under the spiritual guidance of H.H. Domang Yangthang Rinpoche. Since then, this profound Monlam has continued with unwavering dedication.
The 13th Grand Recitation of the Seventh Chapter of Guru Rinpoche’s Unfailing Prayer will now be observed at Sangchen Pemayangtse Monastery during the 17th Rabjung, Wood-Snake Year, from 22nd to 31st October 2025.
The Organizing Committee warmly invites all monasteries, Dharma practitioners, and devotees—both domestic and international—to participate in this sacred gathering dedicated to the peace, harmony, and spiritual well-being of all sentient beings. As in previous years, all necessary arrangements for meals and accommodation will be graciously provided by the organizers.
In alignment with the monastery’s ethical and environmental commitments, the Organizing Committee urges everyone to strictly adhere to a Plastic-Free Zone throughout the event and to observe a pure vegetarian offering and consumption policy within the entire premises. Supporting the principle of “Vocal for Local,” participants are encouraged to offer locally made and naturally sourced items such as Khabze, Zero, Byasu, Chakdung, Roti, home-grown fruits and vegetables, and other organic produce — items that are hygienic, environmentally friendly, and meritorious through non-harmful means.
Furthermore, devotees are respectfully requested to offer cotton-made khadas where possible. In their absence, one may offer a bunch of flowers or even a single flower with pure motivation and heartfelt devotion for the benefit of all sentient beings.
To complete the registration process, participants are requested to submit their details via email or phone before 21st October 2025.
