Fisheries Department Gyalshing Conducts Awareness Programme for ST/SC Beneficiaries under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Supported by NFDB, Hyderabad
Gyalshing, 13th October 2025: The Fisheries Department, Gyalshing District (Sikkim), successfully conducted a one-day Awareness Programme for Scheduled Tribe (ST/SC) beneficiaries under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), with support from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, at the Gerethang Gram Prashasan Kendra(GPK) Hall under Yuksam-Tashiding Constituency, Gyalshing District.
The programme was graced by Panchayat President, Labing Gerethang GPU Ms Sashi Luitel, as the Chief Guest. She was accompanied by other esteemed dignitaries including the Panchayat Vice-President along with all the Panchayat Members. Also present were Assistant Director, Fisheries Department Gyalshing Mr Lahang Limboo and departmental staff comprising AFGs and field investigators.
The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize tribal(ST/SC) fish farmers about the wide range of government initiatives and schemes formulated for the holistic development of the fisheries sector in Sikkim, with particular emphasis on the welfare and upliftment of Scheduled Tribe communities.
The chief guest, Ms Luitel, in her address encouraged participants to take up fish farming wherever feasible. She also emphasised training and producing value-added products. She urged the farmers to proactively access and utilize the various schemes being implemented by the Department for their benefit. She further thanked the department for organising the awareness programle and thus enlightening them on various schemes under the Fisheries Department.
During the programme, Mr Lahang Limboo(AD) presented an overview of the aquaculture sector in Sikkim and highlighted the scope of opportunities available to fish farmers. He elaborated on various departmental schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Aquaculture Insurance Scheme under PMMSY, the Mukhya Mantri Matsya Utpadan Yojana (MMMUY) , Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana(PMDDKY), the ongoing progress of fisheries-related activities in the district, and the process for availing benefits such as the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
Further, AFG Ms Lhakpa Dolma Bhutia highlighted the perks of value-added products and how it creates employment and improves financial conditions.
The programme concluded with an interactive session followed by a vote of thanks, extending gratitude to NFDB, Hyderabad, for their support and to the participating farmers as well as the Panchayat members.
