Kala Utsav is a flagship programme of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, which was launched in the year 2015. This event aims to foster and showcase the artistic talents of the students of the secondary stage and is in alignment with national Education Policy 2020.
This year, State Level Kala Utsav 2025 was successfully organised on 11th October, 2025 at PM SHRI Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Gangtok. It was graced by Hon’ble Minister of Education, Shri Raju Basnett, as the Chief Guest, who emphasised in such a programme for the holistic development of the students.
The programme also had the presence of respected Commissioner cum Secretary, Education Department, Shri Raj Yadav; Principal Director, Shri Sonam Denzongpa; Additional Secretary, Administration Section (HQ), Shrimati Laki Doma Bhutia; Additional Director, Samagra Shiksha, Shri A. D. Chettri and CEO, Pakyong, Shri Narayan Mishra and other officers from District Education Office, Gangtok and HQ, Education Department.
This year, the competition was for 12 different categories – Vocal Music (Solo), Vocal Music (Group), Dance (Solo), Dance (Group), Theatre, Visual Arts – 2D & 3D and Group, Instrumental Music Melodic & Rhythmic and Group and Traditional Storytelling.
There was participation of 136 students from all six districts, wherein during the District Level Kala Utsav, there was a huge participation of 1537 students (879 Girls, 590 Boys) from 538 schools along with 68 Children with Special Needs (CwSN). The programme witnessed extremely mesmerising and vibrant performances by all the students.
The performances were judged by a panel of 16 eminent judges for all 12 categories and accordingly, the winners of this year’s State Level Kala Utsav, who will be participating in the National Level Kala Utsav 2025, are as under:-

4. Dance (Group) – Shera Manger & Group, PM SHRI Namchi Girls Sr. Sec. School, Namchi District
5. Theatre – Priya Limboo & Group, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Yuksom, Gyalshing District
6. Visual Arts (2D) – Dorjee Tamang, Tingchim Sec. School, Mangan District
7. Visual Arts (3D) – James Rai, Chakung Sr. Sec. School, Soreng District
8. Visual Arts (Group) – Banisha Rai & Asha Rai, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Legship, Gyalshing District
9. Instrumental Music (Melodic) – Kunga Tashi Sherpa, PM SHRI Sir TNSSS, Gangtok District
10. Instrumental Music (Rhythmic) – Adroit Bhujel, Tadong Sr. Sec. School, Gangtok District
11. Instrumental Music (Group) – Reeyaz Darjee & Group, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Tashiding, Gyalshing District
12. Traditional Storytelling – Marina Limboo & Shristi Giri, Mangan Girls Sr. Sec. School, Mangan District
