Press Release from District Child Protection Unit, Soreng District

On 11th October , 2025, “Awareness & Sensitisation Program on Child Rights Legislations & Services Provided under Mission Vatsalya Scheme”, an initiative from the office of the District Child Protection Unit, Mission Vatslaya Scheme under Women Child Senior Citizen &Divyangjan Welfare Department, Soreng District has successfully conducted a day long programme at PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng.
During the programme Dr. Purna Bahadur Chettri, principal of the School welcomed the team from District Child Protection Unit, Soreng District followed by the Mr. M.K Khewa Joint Director, Education Department, Soreng District encouraged the staff and the guardians to fully give their all for the Development of the child. Mr. Peter Rai, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), highlighted about the District Child Protection Unit(DCPU) Soreng District and also spoke about the aims/objectives of the Mission Vatsalya Scheme and shared about the components under the Mission Vatsalya Scheme as mandated by the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and accordingly further about the DCPUs dedication in providing services to the Children who are in need of Care and protection and children who are in conflict with law through Institutional Support and Non-Institutional Support. The DCPO also urged to the gathering that if any person has found any child in difficult circumstances and who is vulnerable to any kind of exploitation, the person must report to the parents, concern citizen, teachers, panchayats, police and any other trust worthy person of the society.
Ms. Aeromeena Lepcha, Legal-cum-Probation Officer spoke on the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Ms. Sajna Chettri, Labour Inspector, Spoke on Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 making the audience aware of the hazardous environment where children are prohibited from being employed.
Ms. Anusha Thapa, Chairperson , Child Welfare Committee, Soreng District encouraged the teachers, guardians and students to be vigilant on the social media usage by minors and highlighted that most of the perpetrators are lurking on social media platforms to abuse the Children. She further gave case analysis of the different kinds of cases that is affecting the development of child due to the neglect of parents.
The programme included group discussion among the teachers, students and guardians related to the presentations and awareness.
The programme was concluded by vote of thanks speech by Dr. Bhim Sapkota, PGT Nepali, PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng. The program had the attendance of Joint Director, Education Department,Principal, teachers as well non -teaching staff/ guardians and students of the PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng
