Sikkim Employees’ State Insurance Society holds its first Governing Body Meeting
The first meeting of the Governing Body of the Sikkim Employees’ State Insurance Society was convened on October 09, 2025, at Tashiling Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Society and Chief Secretary to the Government of Sikkim, Shri R Telang, IAS. The meeting also had the presence of the Vice Chairman, Employees State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) and  Secretary, Labour Department, Shri Bhim Thatal along with Shri Tshewang Gyachho Bhutia, Secretary, Health Department, Shri MCP Pradhan, Controller-cum-Secretary, Finance Department, Shri Amrish Kumar Sharma, Regional Director, Dr. HN Gorain, State Medical Officer, ESI Corporation, Shri Shiromani Neopaney, Director, ESIS/Additional Labour Commissioner, Labour Department along with employers’ /employees’  representatives respectively and other key officers of the ESIS.
During the meeting, the Regional Director briefed about the implementation of the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 and the benefits being provided to the Insured Persons through PPT.
He mentioned that the scheme ensures all medical facilities, viz, primary, secondary, tertiary and super specialty treatment of the employees registered as Insured Persons alongwith their dependents. It was brought to the notice of all the members that during the Financial Year 2024-25, the following benefits were disbursed to the Insured Persons:-
Sickness Benefit: 1,178 beneficiaries – ₹1,17,66,961/-
Extended Sickness Benefit: 16 beneficiaries – ₹6,87,536/-
Maternity Benefit: 168 beneficiaries – ₹1,68,72,350/-
Temporary Disablement Benefit: 12 beneficiaries – ₹2,09,270/-
Permanent Disablement Benefit (Periodical): 12 beneficiaries – ₹67,973/-
Death Benefit: 367 beneficiaries – ₹24,90,380/-
Funeral Expenses: 8 beneficiaries – ₹1,20,000/-
Total Amount Disbursed: ₹3,22,14,470/-
During the course of the discussion, Shri R. Telang, Chief Secretary, directed to conduct extensive awareness programme be conducted in order to aware the employers and employees about the scheme. In view of the direction, the Department has decided to hold such programmes across the State so that the maximum number of workers can be made eligible to avail benefits as per the schemes.
