Press Release from the Office of the Chief Education Officer, Gangtok

Information & Public Relations Department

Date: 07-Oct-2025
C. S. Rai — Arithang Secondary School adopted by the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, was visited today by Shri Tushar G. Nikhare, District Collector (DC), Gangtok. He was accompanied by the Assistant Collector, Joint Director of the District Education Office (Gangtok), Assistant Engineer and officials from the Engineering Cell of the Education Department, and the Deputy Director of Nandok (Education Department).
As part of the school visit, a comprehensive review meeting was held today on 7th October 2025, chaired by the DC, Gangtok, with members of the Engineering Section. Present at the meeting were both the old and new contractors involved in the school’s infrastructure works. The Engineering Section presented the building plan to the visiting team, outlining the current status and upcoming stages of construction.
During the discussion, the DC suggested several necessary modifications to the existing building plan to better cater to the school’s immediate requirements. It was observed that the four-roomed building handed over in 2024 remains unused due to the absence of washroom facilities and electrification. To expedite the utilization of this infrastructure, the DC emphasized the urgent need to make the washrooms in the basement of the under-construction building fully functional.
Furthermore, the DC encouraged the school head and faculty to shift critical academic resources — such as the library and laboratory equipment — into the newly available spaces, thereby enhancing the teaching-learning environment.
A separate interactive session was also held with the staff of Arithang SS, during which the DC, sought feedback from the teachers regarding their expectations from the ongoing interventions under the Governor’s Adopted School Programme. The DC stressed the importance of pursuing academic excellence, particularly in both home and Board examinations. The teaching staff also shared their experiences, best practices, and ongoing efforts to improve student outcomes.
The visit and the review reflect a committed push towards infrastructural improvement and academic enrichment at C.S. Rai, Arithang Secondary School. The collaborative efforts of the District Administration, Education Department, and the school community are expected to bring transformative changes, creating a conducive learning environment for students and setting a benchmark for other institutions in the district.
