The Department of Agriculture and farmer’s welfare GoI organized two days “National Conference on Agriculture-Rabi Campaign 2025” on 15th -16th September 2025 at Bharat Ratna C Subramanian Auditorium, NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi.
The Conference focused on strategies for effective planning and implementation of the Rabi 2025-26 seasons. The first day involved breakout seasons on 6 new initiatives undertaken by Agriculture Ministry during recent past. The second day had the presentation of the recommendation churned out after the deliberation of the previous day.
The Conference was chaired by Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan Hon’ble Union Minister for Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare & Rural Development Department and attended by many state Agriculture Ministers.
Sikkim was represented by Hon’ble Agriculture Minister Shri Puran Kumar Gurung, Secretary Agriculture Shri Jigme Dorjee Bhutia-IAS, Pr Dir I Shri T T Bhutia, Pr Director II Shri R P Thapa, Mrs Rachna Gurung, Director SAMETI, Mr Kunga Samdup Bhutia, Additional Director Agriculture, Ms Pema Choden Butia, Additional Director Horticulture, Dr Pratap Subba, Additional Director, Agriculture, Mr Bhison Pradhan Senior Scientist & Head-KVK Geyzing District and Mr Dinesh Basnett Senior scientist and Head KVK Mangan district. All the senior official participated in the six breakout session on the 1st day.
On the second day Hon’ble Minister highlighted the issues and recommendation pertaining to Agriculture and Horticulture scenario of the state. He demanded to establish two new Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Pakyong and Soreng District. He emphasized to formulate policies for land terracing to control soil erosion. He highlighted that Sikkim State does not avail any fertilizer subsidy, so requested for special grant to promote organic nutrient production.
