One- Day Training on “Nursery raising of rabi vegetables in nursey bed with soil and seed treatment along with IPM practices Concluded Successfully at St Joseph School, Martam
Martam Block, Horticulture Department had organized one day training programme on Nursery raising of rabi vegetables seed with soil and seed treatment along with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices concluded successfully on 16th September, 2025.
The training aimed to enhance technical knowledge and practical skills in growing vegetables, soil and IPM measures to the grade 9 students along with teachers of St Jospeh School, Martam during the session
Dr Anjana Pradhan, HDO, Martam highlighted about the immense potential of Organic farming its importance and future prospects associated with these measures. She further gave detail information on growing vegetables in portray as well as nursery bed along with detail knowledge on transplanting to main field.
Dr. Roshna Gazmer provided an overview of and brief elaboration on Soil as a living entity enriched with micro-organisms, minerals, nutrients and organic matter. She highlighted the cause of diseases in crops causes by harmful soil borne pathogens and taught students about beneficial organic fungus Trichoderma, an antagonistic fungus which fights with disease causing soil borne fungus in the soil and prevents diseases in various crops.
She further explained Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and its components, Insects pests and diseases.
Mrs Rinchen OngmuLepcha, Horticulture Inspector, Martam Nazitam explained about vermicomposting. She further explained about detailed procedure of preparing vermicompost using cow dung, earthworm, kitchen waste and leaves available in the field. She mentioned about using specific earthworm Eisenia fetida for preparing vermicompost and use of vermicompost in the nursey and main field.
The program saw active participation of around 40 students of Grade 9 along with teachers who were very inquisitive to learn and were proactive throughout the session.
In the second hands on training on preparation of nursery bed was given by Dr Anjana Pradhan, HDO, Martam and seed and soil treatment using Trichoderma viridae was briefly explained by Dr Roshna Gazmer. Field demonstration was given by Mr Palden Gyatso, OFA and Mrs Rinchen Ongmu Lepcha, Inspector, Martam Naiztam GPU.
Every student had joined in sowing seed and overall, the programme had been very fruitful. This sort of training programme brings prospects and insight to the students as they are the future of our upcoming generation as they will inherit and shape the world, bring innovation and carry forward the knowledge they have acquired.
