Gangtok, September 12: A five-day capacity building programme on Disaster Management, held from 8th to 12th September 2025 at Stone Age Resort, Sangkhola, concluded successfully, today.
Organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gangtok, in collaboration with the Mountaineering and Adventure Institute of Sikkim (MAIS), Additional District Collector, Gangtok, Mr Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The training aimed at strengthening preparedness and response mechanisms of stakeholders and enhancing their capacity to mitigate disaster risks. Participants included representatives from various 4 power projects and 5 Block Administrative Centres (BACs) under Gangtok District.
During the closing session, participants shared valuable feedback based on their training experiences. Certificates of participation were then distributed to all trainees, marking the successful culmination of the programme.
Speaking at the event, the Additional District Collector, Gangtok congratulated the participants and lauded their dedication which helped them in completing the rigorous training program including the physical training. He further highlighted the importance of continued capacity building at the grassroots level to ensure effective disaster preparedness and response across the district.
The programme also had the presence of Mr. Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, Joint Director, DDMA, Ms. Bijayata Kharel, Training Officer, DDMA, and Mr. Deepak Chettri, Course Director and senior instructors from MAIS.
