Army Hands Over New ICDS Shelter to Lower Khani Village.
Pakyong, Sept 9: The Indian Army handed over a newly built ICDS centre shelter to the residents of Lower Khani Village, Rangpo, today.
The inauguration was attended by Mrs Meenakshi Rathore, Head of Army Families of Gangtok Division; Deputy Director of ICDS Department Ms Gaki D Phempu; Supervisor Ms Apsara Devi Sharma; Block Development Officer Mr Chopel Bhutia along Panchayat Mr Devendra Sharma, and army officers.
During the programme children of the village presented cultural performances, including a nursery rhyme by ICDS children.
Educational kits and slate kits, provided by Udaan Welfare Foundation, Mumbai, under Dr Anil Luniya, were distributed by Mrs Rathore to school-going and younger children.
Mrs Rathore also felicitated village elder Mr Bhirkha Bahadur Manger, who had provided land for the ICDS shelter.
The new structure replaces the earlier bamboo shelter that had deteriorated and could no longer be used. The Indian Army undertook the construction under its initiative for community development in remote areas.
In collaboration with the villagers, a new pathway has also been developed, improving accessibility to the centre. This ensures that all members of the community, particularly pregnant women and children, can safely access the services.
The bright faces of the villagers are a testament to how this grassroots initiative has deeply connected with the local community. This project stands as a symbol of the Indian Army’s commitment to national development and support for remote local communities.
