Gangtok, September 09: The District Disaster Management Authority(DDMA), Gangtok has launched a five-day capacity building program on disaster management w.e.f 8th September to 12th September 2025 for volunteers from 05 blocks and 04 power projects in the district at Stone Age, Sangkhola.
The training is organised in collaboration with the Mountaineering and Adventure Institute of Sikkim (MAIS)
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Mr Tushar G. Nikhare, District Collector cum Chairman, DDMA along with Mr Bhawesh Khaliya, Assistant Collector, Gangtok and Mr Sonam Wongyal Bhutia, Joint Director, DDMA, Ms. Bijayata Kharel, Training Officer, DDMA and Mr. Kunzang Gyatso, Principal MAIS.
The District Collector in his address lauded the spirit of the volunteers and urged them to actively participate in the training which is a first-of-its-kind being organised in the district.
This comprehensive training program focuses on enhancing the skills of volunteers in search and rescue operations, mountaineering and disaster response. The initiative aims to strengthen the district's disaster management capabilities and promote community resilience.
