Gangtok, September 09: The Executive Body of the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS) met today with Hon’ble Minister Shri Sandup Lepcha, Minister for Social Welfare, Women & Child Development and Printing & Stationery Departments, and Hon’ble Minister Shri N.B. Dahal, Minister for Roads & Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim, to extend heartfelt gratitude for the reopening of permits for tourists visiting North Sikkim.
On this occasion, the association also conveyed its deep appreciation to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), for his visionary leadership and commitment to the growth of Sikkim’s tourism sector. His far-sighted initiative to open two new tourist destinations, Doklam and Chola, under the concept of Border Tourism introduced by the Government of India, is a landmark step. This decision is set to diversify Sikkim’s tourism landscape and further strengthen its reputation as one of the most important travel destinations in the country.
TAAS acknowledged that the reopening of North Sikkim and the inclusion of new destinations will create fresh opportunities for local communities, entrepreneurs, and service providers engaged in tourism. These initiatives are expected to increase visitor inflow, generate employment, support livelihoods, and contribute significantly to the economic growth of the state.
The meeting also included constructive discussions, during which TAAS confirmed its full cooperation with the Government of Sikkim in all ongoing and future initiatives. The Executive Body assured that its members will strictly follow government notifications, guidelines, and safety protocols related to tourist movement and regulations, ensuring high standards of service, visitor satisfaction, and safety.
Looking ahead, TAAS expressed its commitment to working closely with the state government and stakeholders to promote responsible, sustainable, and community-driven tourism. The association remains dedicated to upholding Sikkim’s image as a pristine, welcoming, and culturally vibrant destination, enriched by natural beauty.
