Mangan, Sept 9: As part of the 10-day special awareness campaign under SANKALP: a programme under DHEW was organized at the Lungchok Anganwadi Centre, Mangan District today.
The campaign aimed to spread awareness on critical social, financial, and legal issues affecting women, children, and the general public.
The event witnessed the participation of key officials including Ms. Wendy Lepcha (DCPO), Ms. Sonam Phuti Bhutia (Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre), Ms. Sonam Lhaden Lachungpa (DNO cum CDPO, Mangan), Mr. Pema Thenden Lachungpa (DMC, DHEW), Ms. Pema Lepcha (Specialist in Financial Literacy), Mr. Lhendup Lepcha and Mr. Dadul Lepcha (DEOs, DHEW), Mr Ishori Bhattarai (Accounts Assistant), and Ms. Demu Lepcha (ICDS Supervisor). The programme also saw enthusiastic participation from AWWs, mothers, and local residents.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address by CDPO Sonam Lhaden Lachungpa, who introduced the objectives of the campaign and acknowledged the presence of all dignitaries and participants.
Highlights of the Programme: Ms. Sonam Phuti Bhutia (Centre Administrator, OSC) shared a detailed overview of the One Stop Centre and Women Helpline (WHL) services, highlighting the support mechanisms available for women in distress.
Ms. Pema Lepcha (Financial Literacy Specialist) delivered an informative session on financial management, emphasizing the importance of savings habits, digital banking, budgeting, and precautions against cyber crimessuch as OTP frauds and online scams.
Mr. Tshering Lhendup Lepcha (DEO, PMMVY) explained the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), covering the eligibility criteria and benefits available to beneficiaries.
Ms. Wendy Lepcha (DCPO) addressed critical social issues such as teenage pregnancy, child marriage, POCSO Act, and the concepts of good touch and bad touch. She also spoke about adoption and sponsorship schemes for children in need.
Ms. Maymit Lepcha (Counsellor, CHL) highlighted the services of the Child Helpline 1098, and sensitized the audience on issues related to child labour and child protection.
Ms. Ishori Bhattarai (Accounts Assistant) provided information on various central and state government schemes, including the Vatsalya Scheme of the Government of Sikkim.
