DHEW Gyalshing Organises Awareness Programme on POSH Act & SHE Box under SANKALP Campaign at Chongrang GPU
Gyalshing, September 08:
The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Gyalshing District, under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, organised an awareness programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and SHE Box at Chongrang Gram Panchayat, Chongrang Aspiration Block, today.
Chongrang is one of the identified blocks under the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), a national initiative launched in January 2023 and implemented by NITI Aayog. The programme aims to accelerate development in 500 identified blocks across 27 states and 4 Union Territories, focusing on improving health, education, nutrition, basic infrastructure, and women’s empowerment at the grassroots level.
The awareness programme was organised as part of the ongoing 10-Day Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women, aimed at sensitising participants about workplace sexual harassment, ensuring safe and respectful work environments, and promoting the use of the SHE Box online complaint platform for women seeking redressal.
The event saw active participation from Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) members, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Self-Help Group (SHG) members, and community stakeholders. It was also graced by the presence of Mrs. Shanti Limboo, Chairman, Sikkim Consumer Cooperative Society, along with Panchayat Mr. L.B. Basnet and Panchayat Mr. T.B. Limboo, whose guidance and support contributed to the success of the programme.
Delivering the welcome address, Ms. Renuka Chettri (Social Welfare Inspector) highlighted the importance of understanding workplace rights and protections under the POSH Act. Mr. Parash Pradhan (Gender Specialist, DHEW) briefed participants on the aims and objectives of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women and its role in providing support services to women.
The key session by Mr. Mahadeo Sharma (Advocate & Resource Person) focused on the provisions of the POSH Act and demonstrated the SHE Box online platform for safe and confidential reporting.
The programme concluded with the distribution of IEC materials on the POSH Act and SHE Box, empowering participants with essential knowledge on workplace safety and grievance redressal mechanisms.
