District Education Office, Soreng Observes Literacy Week (1st – 8th September 2025) in a Grand Manner
The District Education Office, Soreng, successfully observed Literacy Week 2025 from 1st to 8th September across all schools under the district. The week-long programme was celebrated with great enthusiasm through a series of activities designed to promote literacy and create awareness about the importance of education.
Activities Conducted During Literacy Week:
1. Painting competitions on the theme Importance of Education.
2. Awareness programmes on ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram for students, guardians, and SMC members.
3. Student rallies with placards and charts on ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Abhiyan.
4. Recitation of rhymes by primary students.
5. Morning assembly speeches on Education for All.
6. Nukkad Nataks by students and Volunteer Teachers highlighting ULLAS.
7. Debate and discussions on Education for All by students of JHS and SS levels.
8. Awareness campaigns through posters and paintings on the theme Each One Teach One under ULLAS.
All schools actively participated and shared daily reports along with photographs of their activities with their respective BAC Heads, who further consolidated and forwarded the reports to the District Office.
In addition, Volunteer Teachers (VTs) conducted surveys to identify left-out non-literates and organized classes for registered learners preparing to appear for the upcoming Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT). Monitoring and facilitation of all activities were ensured by BAC Heads and district officials.
The week-long celebration concluded on 8th September 2025 with the observation of World Literacy Day at L.B. Limboo Sr. Secondary School, Sribadam.
The programme began with a student rally featuring powerful slogans and chants on the importance of literacy, followed by the offering of khadas to the distinguished guests. The formal session started with a welcome address by Shreemoti Sushma Mohra, AD Kaluk BAC. Students of L.B. Limboo Sr. Sec. School, Sribadam, actively participated in various activities including speeches on World Literacy Day and Education for All, awareness Nukkad Nataks, and painting competitions, showcasing their creativity and commitment to the cause of literacy.
On the occasion, Shri M.K. Khewa, JD-cum-District Nodal Officer, highlighted the objectives of ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Abhiyan, the wide-ranging activities conducted across schools in Soreng District, and the importance of literacy. He urged all teachers and students to act as Volunteer Teachers in their localities, to identify any remaining non-literates, and dedicate at least one day a week to teaching them. He emphasized that such collective efforts would contribute towards making Sikkim the fully literate state in India.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Shreemoti Santa Sharma, AEO, DEO Soreng, who also expressed gratitude to all participating students. As a token of encouragement, small gifts were distributed to students on behalf of the District Education Office, Soreng.
