10-Day Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women Continues in Pakyong
Pakyong, September 4 (IPR):
The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Pakyong District, under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, successfully conducted the third day of its 10-Day Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) with a day-long awareness programme at Pakyong Junior High School.
The programme focused on Gender Sensitization and covered vital topics such as government yojanas, scholarship schemes, child safety, and protection education.
The session was moderated and hosted by Ms. Kusum, Gender Specialist, who delivered an engaging talk on gender equality and the importance of awareness for building a sound society. She also conducted an age-appropriate session on Good Touch and Bad Touch, aimed particularly at primary and middle school students. Her talk included:
Explaining the difference between a “good touch” and a “bad touch” in child-friendly language.
Encouraging students to trust their instincts and say “NO” to uncomfortable situations.
Educating children about safe adults they can approach, such as parents, teachers, and school counselors.
Promoting the “No, Go, Tell” strategy—say “No,” leave the situation, and inform a trusted adult immediately.
Role-playing activities and visual aids were also used to make the session interactive and impactful. Ms. Kusum emphasized that communication and awareness are essential in preventing abuse and ensuring children grow up safe, respected, and empowered.
This was followed by a session on Government Schemes and Financial Literacy by Ms. Yangkit Doma Lepcha Specialist in Financial Literacy, who highlighted various state and central government initiatives supporting education, with a special focus on girl students. She spoke about:
National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) to prevent secondary school dropouts.
Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship Scheme for academically bright students from low-income families.
Digital learning initiatives, career guidance, and financial aid under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
Step-by-step guidance on applying for scholarships online, including required documentation and deadlines.
She encouraged teachers and students to stay informed and to take full advantage of these schemes to pursue education without financial constraints.
Mr. Dilip Kumar Rai, Headmaster of Pakyong Junior High School, applauded the programme and thanked the department for organising such an insightful initiative, noting its usefulness for growing adolescent students.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Alson Rai, who appreciated the efforts of the speakers, participants, school staff, and attendees for contributing to the success of the event.
