Additional Political Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, handed over two pairs of portable walkie-talkie two-way radio to Mr Sonam W. Lepcha, District Project Officer (Disaster Management), DDMA Gangtok.
The provision of these wireless communication devices aims to strengthen the district’s disaster preparedness and response mechanisms. During natural calamities, when mobile networks and internet connectivity are often disrupted, such portable radios provide a reliable and immediate communication. They enable real-time coordination between disaster response teams, local authorities, and frontline workers, ensuring timely interventions and swift mobilisation of resources.
This initiative underscores the State Government’s continued commitment to building resilient communities, enhancing disaster management infrastructure, and prioritising the safety and well-being of the people of Gangtok District.
