Mangan, 1st September 2025:
The Agriculture Department, Mangan District, under the ATMA scheme, organized a Farmer–Scientist Interaction cum Kisan Gosthi today on the theme “Importance of Soil Health Management for Sustainable Farming.”
The programme had the presence of Dr. Hissay D. Lepcha, Joint Director, AH&VS Department, Mangan District; Shri Padam Bdr Gurung, Deputy Director-cum-Deputy Project Director, ATMA, Agriculture Department, Mangan District; Shri Mikmar Lepcha, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department; Miss Thendal Zangmu Lepcha ADO, Agriculture department, Shri Roshan Subba, Block Officer, Fisheries Department; Smt. Meena Pradhan, SMS (Extension); Shri Palden Bhutia, SMS (Soil Science); and Ms. Rinchen Bhutia, SMS (Horticulture), along with Agriculture Inspectors, BTMs, departmental staff, and farmers from across the district.
The programme began with a welcome address by Shri Tilachen Biswakarma, Agriculture Inspector. This was followed by a briefing on the objectives of the Farmer–Scientist Interaction and Gosthies by Shri Padam Bdr Gurung, Deputy Director ATMA.
Shri Palden Bhutia, SMS (Soil Science), presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the theme.
Dr. Hissay D. Lepcha, Joint Director (AH&VS Department), in her address, shared departmental schemes related to livestock, dairy, and piggery promotion, and emphasized the integration of livestock with agriculture to enhance soil fertility and farm income.
Shri Mikmar Lepcha, Deputy Director (Horticulture), highlighted horticulture schemes with a special focus on floriculture as an emerging income-generating sector for farmers.
Smt. Meena Pradhan, SMS (Extension), shared KVK’s successful demonstrations and motivated farmers to adopt innovative practices.
Shri Roshan Subba, Block Officer (Fisheries Department), elaborated on various fisheries schemes and assured farmers of full technical support and assistance in developing fish farming as a sustainable enterprise in the district.
All the resource persons further briefed farmers about their respective schemes, technologies, and success models, encouraging them to adopt sustainable farming practices at the grassroots level.
The technical sessions were followed by an open discussion and question–answer session, where farmers actively interacted with scientists and officials.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Smt Lyangmit Lepcha Agriculture Inspector, acknowledging the dignitaries, scientists, and farmers for their active participation and contribution towards strengthening sustainable agriculture in Mangan District.
