District-Level National Sports Day Celebration 2025 Held at Jautar Stadium, Soreng
Soreng, 29 August 2025 — The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim, successfully hosted the District-Level National Sports Day Celebration 2025 at Jautar Stadium and the Gymnasium Hall, Soreng District. The event paid heartfelt tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary figure of Indian hockey, whose legacy continues to inspire athletes across the nation.
The programme was honoured by the presence of Chief Guest Dr P.B. Chettri, Principal of PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng, Mrs Sujata Tamang, Physical Education Teacher at PM Shri Government SSS Soreng, was present as Guest of Honour, alongside two distinguished coaches from Khelo India Centre Soreng—representing boxing and badminton—who were invited as Special Guests.
Also in attendance were Shri Amber Gurung, President of the Soreng Badminton Association (SBA), executive members of SBA, and student participants from various schools in Soreng.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Shri D.B. Subba, Assistant Director, SYAD Soreng District, followed by the Fit India Pledge. The sporting events began with the flag-off of the Chief Minister One Mile Run for under-14 boys and girls, followed by a series of engaging competitions including the Sack Race (Senior Boys), Book Balance Race (Junior Girls), and Balloon Bursting (Primary Boys).
Results of the Day’s Events:
1. Chief Minister One Mile Run (Under-14 Boys):
- 1st: Mr Nushen Rai (KIC Badminton)
- 2nd: Mr Anshu Subba (KIC Badminton)
- 3rd: Mr Sohid Subba (PM Shri GSSS Soreng)
2. Chief Minister One Mile Run (Under-14 Girls):
- 1st: Ms Kanchan Chettri (SSAG Soreng)
- 2nd: Ms Pema Choden Tamang (PM Shri GSSS Soreng)
- 3rd: Ms Tanuja Gurung (SSAG Soreng)
3. Sack Race (Senior Boys):
- 1st: Mr Nushen Rai (KIC Badminton)
- 2nd: Mr Saweng Rai (PM Shri GSSS Soreng)
- 3rd: Mr Lenus Subba (KIC Boxing)
4. Book Balance Race (Junior Girls):
- 1st: Ms Isha Rai (PM Shri SSS Soreng)
- 2nd: Ms Tshering Lamu Sherpa (KIC Badminton)
- 3rd: Ms Kanchan Chettri (SSAG Soreng)
5. Balloon Bursting (Primary Boys):
- 1st: Mr Priyam Subba (KIC Boxing)
- 2nd: Mr Hasan Raja (PM Shri GSSS Soreng)
- 3rd: Mr Shri Ram Besra (PM Shri GSSS Soreng)
Tokens of appreciation were presented to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, followed by the prize distribution ceremony for all winners. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a spirited celebration of sportsmanship, youth engagement, and community pride.
