Yuksam Tourism Development Committee (YTDC), an association of tourism stakeholders in Yuksam, extended its warm congratulations to Ms Phumpi Bhutia on being elected as the President of the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS).
A brief felicitation programme was organised at Yuksam in her honour. Ms Phumpi Bhutia, a native of Yuksam and a prominent tourism entrepreneur, has created history by becoming the first woman President of Travel agent association of Sikkim (TAAS). Her election has been welcomed as a proud moment for Yuksam, one of the state’s most popular tourism destinations.
The event was attended by YTDC executive members, including Chief Advisor Mr Sonam Palden Denzongpa, President Mr Karzang Bhutia, Vice President Mr DB Chettri, Publicity Secretary Mr Pritam Gurung, along with other members.
Also present were Yuksam-Dubdi Gram Panchayat President Ms Sunita Limboo, Panchayat Members Ms Sabitri Chettri and Ms Dhan Maya Limboo, along with members of various tourism-based organisations, stakeholders, local residents, tourism stakeholders, and well-wishers were also present to extend their greetings and best wishes.
In her remarks, Ms Bhutia thanked the YTDC and the people of Yuksam for their support and assured that she would work with dedication to enhance the tourism sector and promote Sikkim as a premier tourist destination. She also encouraged all stakeholders to empanel themselves with TAAS for collective growth and extended her commitment to the welfare of tourism entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the state. Further, she urged educated youth to explore entrepreneurship opportunities in the tourism sector.
Earlier, YTDC President Mr Karzang Bhutia, in his welcome address, expressed confidence that TAAS President Ms Phumpi Bhutia’s leadership will further strengthen the association and contribute towards sustainable tourism growth in Sikkim. He also stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between local stakeholders, tourism organisations, and government agencies for the holistic development of Yuksam as a heritage and eco-tourism hub.
A brief interaction was also held with the TAAS President, during which local travel agents and tour operators shared their suggestions and deliberated on measures to enhance tourism development. Discussions were held on tourism promotion, opportunities for community-based tourism, and strategies to address challenges faced by the sector.
On the occasion, congratulations were also extended to Mr Binay Tsong Limboo on his election as Executive Member of TAAS and to Mr DB Chettri on his nomination as TAAS Secretary for Gyalshing district.
